Horror, movies

Weapons: Zach Creggers Does It Again!

I went in totally blind to weapons… I saw it late Monday night at 8:30, prime time to watch a horror in my opinion… anyway I knew the gist of the plot, 17 kids from the same class go missing except one kid (more on him later)

The film stars Julia Garner as Justine Gandy, the teacher whose class of kids has gone missing, Josh Brolin as Archer Graff whose son Matthew is one of the missing students, Alden Ehrenreich as Paul, and Cary Christopher as Alex Lilly, the only kid who seemingly didn’t go missing.

Told in a vignette style resembling Kurosawa’s Rashomon, we flick between Justine, Archer, Paul and Alex’s POV of events…

So the whole plot revolves around this, at exactly 2:17 am on the dot, 17 kids from Justine’s class at Maybrooke Elementary woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the their front door… and left, and they never came back.

That’s the opening narration from an unnamed student at Maybrooke, we then cut to Justine’s POV… now she’s been blamed by the parents of the missing kids, we hear Archer off screen go why her, why only her classroom.

Now I am going to stop right there and venture no more in to the plot… because like Barbarian, you need to go in blind! Completely and utterly blind, do not read any spoilers… because it’s that kind of movie, just sit down and watch it.

Now obviously Julia Garner and Josh Brolin are brilliant actors, I first saw Julia Garner in the Netflix series Ozark and thought to myself “oh damn, she’s good” from then she is definitely my favourite actress working today.

She does a bang up job playing Justine, you really feel for her character here because like the parents she has no idea what’s happening either, and she’s now the centre of this witch hunt, everyone is blaming her for the disappearances.

Josh Brolin as well does a great job here playing Archer Graff, his son Matthew Graff is one of the missing kids, he’s become so disillusioned by the police and is very much cynical about whether the truth about the disappearances will ever come to light.

There’s a scene where he has a nightmare, he sees a AR-15 rise above his his house with the number 217… many saw this as an allegory for school shootings and maybe that was where the film was headed.

But classic Creggers fashion it almost feels like he’s winking at us saying “oh you thought that? Aww, nah I just put that in there for shits and giggles, to throw you off the scent”

But enough about the adult leads.

Let me introduce to you Cary Christopher as Alex Lilly, the only kid not to go missing from his class.

I rarely say this about child actors but damn! This kid is good I mean really good… he is definitely one to watch in the near future, he’s natural… he’s grounded… he carries some of the movies most heaviest moments but he is able to hold his own, there are some scenes you just wanna reach in and say “it’s okay kiddo it’s okay”

His performance for me resembles a young Haley Joel Osment from Sixth Sense, what a performance that was.

There is a small performance from 80s movie star Amy Madigan who plays Auntie Gladys… can’t say to much about her character (spoilers aplenty lurk everywhere in this film) but I can say this… I won’t be going round hers for Halloween this year

Now I did wonder why this film was rated 18… it’s psychological, there’s a few jump scares here and there but half the time I was thinking “why is it an 18?” And then it hits you and then your sat there like “yeah… that tracks” there’s one graphic part where someone head butts another person to death… it’s graphic but, damn it certainly shocks you.

Weapons is by far the best horror film of the year by a clear mile, it’s up there with Bring Her Back and Presence (which I will be reviewing very soon, so keep an eye out!)

It’s spooky, it’s a brilliant slow burn, it’s a brilliant film all round, but please… do not google what happens! Go in blind!

I give Weapons a 9/10! Bold statement but it’s better than Barbarian!

As always guys… catch ya later 🙂

Mothers Day (2010) Psychological Home Invasion Thriller Offers Nothing New

Back in 2010 a film came out titled Mothers Day, and I do kind of remember this film, sure it fell under the radar and vanished in to the realm of obscurity but hey what film hasn’t.

The film starred Rebecca De Mornay who I must admit I do love when she plays a villain, if you haven’t seen Hand That Rocks The Cradle stop what you are doing and watch it!

It is without a doubt the most creepiest villains you see, she plays that character so bloody well it’s chilling.

The film also stars Frank Grillo and Jaime King as a couple hosting a party in their home, we see them going through a bit of a rough patch in their life, we don’t fully understand why that is until later on.

De Mornay’s family invade the home thinking it’s still theirs from their childhood, little do they know that they lost the house in a foreclosure.

Beth and Daniel end up becoming hostages as well as the other party guests.

This is where the cliches come in to play, you know the ones.

Villain has hid something around the house and it’s always either a small fortune or stack loads of money, the new owners deny any existence of said item and then end up paying the price.

We see the guests endure various torture methods, one including boiling hot water poured in to the ear, while quite tame in comparison to one poor bastard getting a shotgun pellet to his face the kills in this flick are… meh.

Now don’t get me wrong there are rather painful moments including one guy getting a snooker ball to the hand, compared to the shotgun part they are rather tame.

I must say though however my favourite part was when de mornay taunts Grillo’s character.

Halfway through the film we learn through old photos and newspaper clippings, that the reason their going through a rough patch is because Grillo and Kings characters Daniel and Beth had a little boy named Jake who sadly passed away after being hit by a car.

De Mornay shows the old photos including Jake’s old toys and demands where the money is, taunting him saying if he kept an eye on him instead of letting him run out in to the street he’d be here today, tucked up in bed.

It’s an intense scene and you really feel for poor Daniel here, seeing a psychotic woman burn a photo of your son while your duct taped and tied up must be hard to watch.

The worst part is where she douses the keepsake box with alcohol and burns the rest of Jake’s belongings, it is a rather depressing scene to say the least.

As I said in the title Mother’s Day offers nothing new, it’s cliche ridden but it is decent watch I did have a good time with it but you can tell why it’s underrated, the production value feels cheap.

The acting sometimes is subpar, there were a few scenes where I did roll my eyes and think “oh god really”

De Mornay’s character is brilliant however, like I said she plays a terrific villain.

I give this film a 4.5 out of ten, it’s a decent flick but deep down it is a run of the mill home invasion horror, if you want a good recommendation for this particular sub genre check out Straw Dogs with Dustin Hoffman, now that’s a home invasion thriller worth seeing.

But as always until next time, catch ya later 🙂

The Trouble With Blumhouse

When does a movie studio come to the realisation that the movies your churning out are not that good? Well if your Blumhouse the answer is… never.

Let me explain.

Back in 2009 we were greeted with one of the most scariest found footage films since the Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity.

Much like Blair Witch it starred complete unknowns, and quickly became the most scariest found footage film ever made, and with good reason, the film followed young couple Katie and Micah as they document demonic hauntings in their California home.

It was of course Blumhouse’s first movie, soon after they quickly became a powerhouse within the horror genre.

Solely relying on low budgets and relatively unknown directors they took the world of horror by storm, and then… something happened.

The quality dipped, the movies were becoming… rubbish, rather than solely focus on what made them big in the first place, they made bog standard run of the mill horror with cheap effects, and over the top jump scares.

They even went down the franchises route and made rather unnecessary sequels to otherwise great films, paranormal activity for instance, the first one was great, it was scary… it did it what set out to do which was to scare the absolute crap out of you.

There is a reason people say it’s the scariest found footage movie ever made, and… they’re not wrong.

But then they bought out the sequel Paranormal Activity 2, it was… okay, the scares were still there but I don’t know I felt like there was something missing, I can’t quite put my finger on what that missing thing is, I just feel like there’s something, maybe it’s just me.

They then released the prequel with the third one, now this was great! We got a flashback to when Katie and Kristie were little, we got the backstory that we all wanted, and it delivered, it was a worthy prequel.

Until!

They made a spin-off, a Mexican family this time, it still had the found footage element but again it fell flat, then they released the fourth one and well… let’s just say the less said about that the better.

Then the dreaded fifth one came out, I went with my younger sister to see it, there was me and her and three other people in the theatre, the scares… well, I can’t remember there being any, and that ending! Good god in heaven it was bad, like I vividly remember when the credits rolled I went “was that it” sure I got a few laughs but I was being serious, was that it?

After the fifth one was released I do think this is where they started dipping in quality.

Remember the film Sinister? Starred Ethan Hawke as a true crime novelist who moves his family in to a murder home so he can write his next book, terrifying, critics loved it as did I.

It was a breath of fresh air, it didn’t just rely on cheap, tacky jump scares no, it relied on tension as well.

Then we got a sequel, we didn’t ask for it, we didn’t need it, but somehow we got one.

It felt flat, it felt… well I can’t even put it into words but it was bad, sure it still had the same formula as the first one but… the first one had great acting, this on good god, my cat could have acted better than those actors, now I rarely speak bad of child actors I really do, I always praise them, it’s just…

Some child actors have it… and others well… they don’t, and the two boys in this sequel didn’t have it, I’m sorry to say but they were bad, I know I know I feel terrible but believe me they were.

Call me harsh, call me mean but that’s what I thought.

Now don’t get me wrong for every bad movie they have released there are some pretty decent ones, as I mentioned sinister, the first Insidious movie, Oculus directed by Hill House and Bly Manor director Mike Flanagan, and of course the Halloween reboot released back in 2018 (we won’t mention the sequels)

Flash forward to today and they haven’t made a decent horror flick in my opinion for a good few years, again they solely rely on sequels and run of the mill scares.

There’s no passion from them anymore.

That’s a bold statement but just look at their recent flicks.

Imaginary, about an imaginary friend that kills people, again the premise is fantastic but the payoff was god awfully cheap.

Night Swim, I reviewed that earlier this year and did not hold back on how bad it was, I mentioned the premise, no one has seen a haunted swimming pool before in films, night swim was supposed to give us that and instead we got… cheap and cheesy scares with god awful character decision making seriously watch the film and get back to me regarding the decisions they make in this film, thank me later.

I used to be a massive fan of Blumhouse, but after a string of crappy films is it time for this distributor to go bye bye?

Believe it or not but the box office numbers tell a completely different story.

People love them, sure they complain that it’s bad but they love it, as strange the human race is we love a good scare.

In my honest opinion I really do think they need to take a step back, take a good look in the mirror and say “here’s where we’re going wrong” and work on that.

Will it work? Will they come back and regain their control as a powerhouse of horror industry?

Time will tell.

Until next time catch ya later 🙂

28 Days Later, Still Holds Up As An Absolute Masterpiece That Changed Zombie Films Forever

The first zombie film was released back in the sixties, George A. Romero bought us a new kind of horror movie villain, and boy were they scary, but back then zombies were seen as slow, easy to catch and kill.

Enter Danny Boyle, from the guy that bought us the Scottish drug film Trainspotting as well as The Beach he not only breathed new life into the zombie sub-genre but created a new, almost terrifying new type of zombie… the fast moving quick as lightning kind.

You couldn’t outrun this kind, even if you was an Olympic sprinter you couldn’t have done it, it was bold but damn what a decision! Zack Snyder done it with his remake of Dawn Of The Dead, used the exact type of fast moving zombie.

Another interesting fact about this film is that while it used well known actors who were already established in the industry such as Christopher Ecclestone and Brendan Gleeson, it was Cillian Murphy believe or not that rose to stardom with this one, he went on to star in the Dark Knight Trilogy as well as other Christopher Nolan flicks, he wasn’t a household name until this gem of a film was released.

So with that being said it’s time to dive in to 28 Days Later!

So in the film there’s a virus called the Rage, which turns anyone who comes in to contact with the virus into murdering, sadistic and psychopathic zombies, Cillian Murphy plays Jim, a bike courier who has woken up from a coma 28 days later.

Now the virus started in a lab filled with apes, a group of eco terrorists decided to break in and free the chimps, only to then become infected and wreak havoc on the city of London.

Jim awakens from his coma to find London deserted, in one of the most iconic shots in the film we see the baron deserted city of London, cars, buses and trucks overturned and no one in sight, that is until Jim find a nearby church enters and sees an absolute massacre, we then get a first glimpse of these terrifying zombies in the form of a vicar, his screeches alert the other bodies and they chase after Jim.

He then meets up with Mike and Selena and finds out just exactly what has happened, basically long story short it started off as rioting, but instead of major cities it was small towns, it then moved in to the cities, neighbours turned on one another you name it, it all went wrong.

The government then had a shoot on sight implemented, so if you wasn’t infected you’d have been shot basically.

Jim decides he wants to visit his parents house, they get there and find them dead in their beds having overdosed on pills, he finds a note detailing what his parents said.

They are soon attacked by Jim’s neighbour and Mark gets infected and is subsequently killed by Selena.

Left to fend for themselves as a duo the pair find father and daughter Frank and Hannah in a tower block, the four decide to head north after Frank hears a radio broadcast, Selena doesn’t believe it as it could be old and there may be nothing left there.

They head north, Frank dies after a drop of blood from a dead body gets in his eye and Jim has to kill him, and the trio continue north.

They come across an army barracks ran by Major Henry West, turns out that broadcast was a trick to lure women and be turned in to sex slaves, the soldiers take Selena and Hannah away and take Jim and Sergeant Farrell to be shot after they both disagree with the plan.

The base is eventually overrun after Jim lets a zombie who was tied up free.

West ends up dying as well as other soldiers.

The three leave and spend some time in a cottage up in Cumbria while they recover from their ordeal, while there they see a Finnish plane fly over and they unravel a sign that says “hello”

And that’s that.

Honestly I can’t recommend this film enough, when people say they haven’t seen it I add it to their recommendations, it’s a definite must see if you love the whole zombie genre.

The soundtrack which was done by John Murphy is by far the best thing about this film, even if you haven’t seen the film you’ve heard the song “in the house- in a heartbeat” and if you haven’t well… YouTube it and thank me later because it is an absolute banger, not too mention it’s been used in other media as well, it’s pretty much iconic.

The acting is again brilliant, Franks death has to be one of the most shocking to me by far, the screams from Selena are just heartbreaking, the daughter as well god it’s such a well constructed scene.

The part where Jim sees his parents dead in their bed is yet another example of a heartbreaking scene.

Special mention to the style of filming as well, portions of the film is shot on a Canon MiniDV which is why is looks so grainy, it’s a nice touch I must say.

28 Days Later is by far one of the greatest zombie film and yes it still holds up, it’s absolutely terrifying some scenes, the jump scares come thick and fast and the tension is ramped up to 11.

If you haven’t seen this film stop what you are doing and watch it, it’s iconic, it’s fantastic… it’s definitely one of those films to see before you die!

10/10 from me!

As always until next time catch ya later 🙂

The Black Phone, Kidnappings, Murders And Ghosts Make One Creepy Movie

Now this was advertised almost everywhere when it was released last year, I saw it on buses, bus stops, billboards, social media such as Facebook and TikTok, I wanted to go see it at the cinema because it was getting rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, but alas no one wanted to go, so tonight I saw it on demand and downloaded it as quick as anything!

So the film follows Finney played by Mason Thames, (who by the way is brilliant in this) he’s a middle schooler who has a sister with psychic abilities and lives with his abusive alcoholic dad, he is also frequently bullied and harassed at school as well.

The film is set in 1978 where a child abductor and murderer known only as “The Grabber” (played by Ethan Hawke) lurks down the suburbs of Denver preying on the local children, Finney becomes his latest victim, drugged and thrown in the back of a van he awakes in a sound proof basement with nothing but himself and an old black rotary phone.

Now this is where the film takes an absolute brilliant and downright creepy turn as finney hears the phone ring and speaks to the grabbers past victims, we hear from a paperboy, a bully, Finney’s classmate and friend, and a little boy named Griffin.

Each victim gives Finney little hints as to how to escape, each hint represents how they tried to escape.

Griffin wrote a combination for a lock on the wall in the basement so he wouldn’t of forgotten it.

The paper boy (Billy) tells Finney to use a piece of wire to try and get a grate off of a window.

And a kid who was on a rival baseball team Finney played against at the start of the film tells him to dig underneath one of the tiles.

Now remember those because they play a vital part at the end of the film, now remember I mentioned Finneys sister had psychic powers? Well she has dreams that show her how each kid was kidnapped, she then tries to work out where The Grabbers home is located, eventually she does and leads the local police department too the house.

Finney ends up standing up to the grabber after receiving advice from his best friend and last victim named Robin, he teaches Finney too fill the phone with dirt and punch The Grabber with it.

Eventually he kills the grabber with the hints the victims gave him throughout the film, and is then reunited with his sister Gwen.

Now… I had heard about Ethan Hawkes performance and how terrifying it was, boy are they right, he is absolutely creepy in this film, the masks he uses to hide his face are nothing but nightmare fuel for your eyes, you can definitely tell he had fun with this role.

As for Mason Thames’s role, wow! He is fantastic as Finney, you really begin to sympathise with him as he tries everything to escape, even when you think he makes it out your heart is racing and going a thousand miles per hour.

The films lack of jump scares is a treat too, there’s roughly about two maybe even three in this flick, which is really refreshing as I can’t stand certain horror movies that just rely heavily on jump scares, the rest is heart pounding tension and edge of your seat thrills that will leave you breathless.

It’s worth a watch that’s a given, also make sure to check out the book that this film is based on, I’ve heard it’s a faithful adaptation which is great to hear as well!

10/10 I’m giving The Black Phone, it’s creepy but so worth a watch mainly for Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames’s performances, honestly I can’t mention that enough! Definitely give this film a watch, you won’t regret it!

As always until next time… catch ya later 🙂

Fail Safe, If Dr Strangelove Wasn’t A Comedy

Nuclear war is always very frightening to even think about, we’ve seen so many films portray nuclear war, from Threads to the States version The Day After, we’ve seen a made for TV movie called Special Bulletin, but let’s talk about a movie called Fail Safe.

Fail Safe follows several departments, the pilots, the men on the ground in the war room, and the President of the United States, a computer error triggers a fail safe command ordering a group of pilots to bomb Russia.

What follows is arguably the most tense edge of your seat rollercoaster, as not only the men in the war room try to stop the pilots from reaching Moscow but the President as well, directed by Sydney Lumet (who gave us the courtroom drama 12 Angry Men) and starring Henry Fonda as the President and Walter Mathau who plays a political theorist.

The film itself is fantastic, it was a blind buy for me as I saw it in the Criterion Collection, bought it and watched it the minute I got home, let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised by this film.

It’s a stark reminder as to how the Cold War was and just how close we come to nuclear war, but I want to discuss the ending.

Basically everything that can go wrong does go wrong, plans to shoot down the pilots fail as they enter Russian airspace, the President tries his best to talk to said pilots, but turns out the Russians can duplicate the Presidents voice, he then tries to get the main pilots wife to talk him out of it, which is arguably the most tense moment of the film.

The men in the war room then discuss what happens next, the President makes the Russian ambassador an offer, “if the bombers reach Moscow and drop the nuke I will get my pilots to bomb New York”

Not only is that the toughest decision for any President to make it’s a scary one at that, the pilots bomb Moscow in possibly one of the most eeriest scenes in cinema, we hear the Russian ambassador say “the sky, it’s so bright” followed by a a loud shrieking sound, Moscow is now gone.

The President then orders a good friend of his to head up to the skies and head to New York.

The plane flies over New York and uses the Empire State Building as ground zero, we then see the people of New York, men women and children go about their day unaware of what is about to happen.

The eerie part of this is the cinematography that follows, freeze frame and closeups, it’s a great technique especially for the year this film was released, the film then cuts to a title card followed by the end credits.

And that’s Fail Safe, as the title suggests its like if Dr Strangelove wasn’t satire and a comedy, it makes a great companion piece I must admit.

The acting is phenomenal and so is the plot of the film, the pacing is great, at 117 minutes boy does that fly by, trust me you’ll be on the edge of your seat by the half hour mark.

I give this film a ten out of ten, it’s tense and a stark reminder of the Cold War era, as always catch ya later 🙂

Joker, Not Your Typical Superhero Movie

Right off the bat this isn’t your typical DC superhero movie, get that out of your head, but like any other DC movie it’s dark and this film pulls no punches in the dark factor, Joaquin Phoenix plays the part of Arthur Fleck really well that you actually start sympathising with the villain rather than the heroes in the Batman franchise.

It starts off dark and gets even darker as we descend in to Arthur’s descent in to madness and in to the villain we all know today, he starts off as a entertainer at a company called Ha Ha’s basically he does odd jobs here and there entertaining as a clown, what I love about this movie is that it not only highlights mental health but it does it in a way that you end feeling sorry for the bloke knowing full well that he turns in to a psychopath later on. It does it in a very very brilliantly executed manner, that you start hating Batman and loving the Joker it’s brilliant because you start to feel less sorry for the rich and more sorry for the poor.

The director Todd Phillips shows this for example Gotham is shown to represent New York in the eighties and then it slowly begins to descend in to gangland wars and riots and uprisings galore, the cinematography is captured amazingly and not to mention the soundtrack is perfection.

Okay yeah there is that song by Gary Glitter but ignore that controversial move and you’ve got these haunting strings such as violins and cellos composed beautifully by (excuse the spelling she’s Icelandic so bare with) Hildur Guonadóttir, she totally deserved that Oscar win because her haunting pieces are fantastic.

Joker was by far the best movie of 2019 and controversial opinion but Phoenix tops Ledger as The Joker by a mile yeah I went there, definitely gets a solid 10/10.

As always guys catch ya later 🙂

Safety, an important short film that needs to be seen

I love short stories I really do, there’s just something about them that makes them stand out among feature length movies, you get ones that filmmakers post on YouTube and then you get the ones that are tipped for awards, Safety falls in to the tipped for all the awards this upcoming awards season let me explain why.

America has the highest fatality rate for gun deaths, higher than any other country put together, thousands upon thousands are protesting for gun control across the states, the latest shooting happened in Santa Clarita, Safety is one of these films that make you think about all those school shootings that have happened in the past, such as Parkland and Newtown.

The film not only makes you think about those horrific, tragic and upsetting events, but it captures the survivors and puts you in their shoes and makes you think “what would I do” and it captures that in such an emotional and tear jerking way that can’t even be described, the acting is amazing especially the young children, there are moments that make you think and there are moments that make you wonder, but then there’s the moments that make you wonder…. why? Why is this still happening? why are we letting more and more innocent lives get taken away from us? why aren’t the US government doing any thing about it? These questions will flow through your mind at supersonic speed that by the end of the film your sat there in astonishment.

Now as I said before, this film is tipped to win many awards, and I for one will be rooting for this film, and who knows fingers crossed that there’s an Oscar nomination next year, because let me tell you it needs to win an Oscar because it’s such an important film for our time.

Without a doubt this short gets a 100% rating, its eye opening and very very thought provoking, well done to everyone who worked on such an important movie, do yourself a favour and stop what your doing and go and watch this movie!!! It’s imperative that you do!!!

Child’s Play (2019) I Was Not Expecting That

Slasher movies… you either love or hate them I love them, Sleepaway Camp great, Friday The 13th great, Nightmare On Elm Street great, you get it I love slasher movies but… Child’s Play, Child’s Play is one of my favourite slasher movies of all time, so much so that I have the original on Blu-Ray and it’s fantastic, you see Chucky push a babysitter out of the window in glorious high definition and it’s fantastic!

When I heard they were remaking I must admit I had my doubts, like really had my doubts, remakes of horror films you have to get right if you deviate away from the original you are going to have a massive dud on your hands, Child’s Play isn’t that type of remake.

Let me explain, the formula is still there, murderous doll kills people, adults think it’s the kid the kid blames it on the doll and Bob’s your uncle Stacey’s your aunt Greg’s your cousin you have Child’s Play the formula is still there, and you have room for a sequel heck maybe even a franchise, deviate away from that formula and as I said before your going to have a dud, it’s the equivalent of saying Jason from Friday The 13th goes to space and kills some astronauts…. wait what? They did that already? No no no, right hold on let me check *furiously scours through internet* huh… well okay that’s like having alien face off against the predator in a sleepy town where they kill loads of innocent people…. don’t tell they’ve done that as well!

You see look how those films turned out they sucked because they took the formula and they changed it, Jason belongs on a campsite not in space, aliens and predator don’t belong on earth they belong in space, it’s like if Chucky got married and had a child they’ve already done that haven’t they? Damn! What I’m trying to say is stick to the formula and don’t change it.

Child’s Play 2019 while it does change the formula just for the opening scene I might add we don’t have a serial killer possess a good guy doll no, instead we have a disgruntled worker in Vietnam who makes a doll called Buddi they are part of a company called Kazlan the Buddi doll can connect to any Kazlan smart device sounds pretty fancy what could go wrong I hear you ask well this Vietnamese worker is falling behind on the productivity and his toy making quota is low so his boss berates him and out of anger he switches every safety feature on a buddi doll off.

We then get a look at our new Andy Barclay played by Gabriel Bateman (whose sister believe it or not was in the Annabelle sequel Annabelle 2) now I’ve seen this kid in a few other things mainly American Gothic a highly, massively underrated show which lasted one or two seasons but the one horror film I have seen him in was an underrated flick called Lights Out which really messed me up big time.

We then get our new Karen Barclay played amazingly by Aubrey Plaza and then, then we have the main character the one the only Chucky! Terrifyingly played by Mark Hamill, now when I say terrifyingly I mean damn Hamill’s voice sends shivers and chills down the back of your spine, specially when he sings the buddi song *shudders*

Now there is also some really dark humour in this flick also and the kills oh my god the kills are genius, there’s one where a guy gets his face ripped off by a lawn mower, the acting is amazing especially by the new Andy Barclay.

Child’s Play 2019 was an absolute treat to watch, it was surprisingly really really good the kazlan mart scene holy mother of Christ that scene was brutal.

I give Child’s Play 2019 a massive 10/10 it was amazing and you guys should definitely check this one out

Irreversible, one of the most disgusting, brutal, goriest films I have ever seen ever!!!!

Gaspar Noé is one of them directors where most people haven’t seen his movies, like me I’ve never heard of the guy, but until recently his recent film Climax sparked my attention, after a quick google search of his other filmography I noticed he directed a film called Irréversible, now I love films that cause controversy, mainly cause I love seeing what all the fuss was about, oh how I now believe the old adage curiosity killed the cat!

Irréversible follows Vincent Cassel as he searches Paris for the man who raped his girlfriend, the film is told in reverse chronological order, it starts off with Cassel’s character being carted off on a stretcher with a broken arm, we then he how said arm ended up getting broken, he’s trying to find the bloke who raped his girlfriend, upon seeing a guy he beats him up the guy then breaks Cassel’s arm thus revealing how he broke it, then we get the first of many brutal scenes, one of Cassel’s chums gets a fire extinguisher and savagely and rather brutally bludgeons the poor sods brains in.

We then see the characters savagely beating up a cab driver, then cutting to the characters questioning a sex worker who was the rapists previous victim, hesitant she declines but one of the guys holds a shard of glass to her throat, they are then chased by some really angry sex workers and a couple of guys split up and go different ways, Cassel’s girlfriend Alex is revealed to be in a coma following the rape, he sees her bludgeoned body on a stretcher thus setting up the rest of the film, we then cut to Alex played by Monica Bellucci leaving a party trying to hail a taxi she gives up and goes down an underpass where she comes across the sex worker that Cassel was questioning, she is beaten up by the bloke their trying to search for.

Now I’m gonna stop right there, for those who really don’t like graphic details stop reading now!!! You have been warned!!!! The bloke then attacks Alex and… proceeds to rape her… and yes you see and hear fucking everything, the scene lasts for ten minutes and is uninterrupted it’s all one long continuous shot.

Now this is the reason why the film garnered massive controversy, the rape scene and of course the fire extinguisher scene too, now I love foreign movies I do, but sometimes there’s a film that comes along and shocks the shit outta you, Irréversible is that film, now Gaspar Noé with this film really pulls no punches at all, the scenes are very very hard to watch especially the infamous rape scene, but woah! The cinematography is A plus! The score as well is amazing, I read somewhere that they used low sounding audio to make the viewer feel uneasy and sick, and good god it does the job, from the opening scene your on the edge of your seat from the word go!

To say I liked this film would be wrong, I mean it’s well shot I’m not disputing that, but certain scenes are really really unwatchable, five times I had to turn away and gag, all in all it’s a damn depressing film, and it’s definitely the type of you say “yep I’m only watching that film once” I’d give this film a dare I say it but 8/10.

I’m basing it on the cinematography and the score, nothing else!!! But as always guys until next time catch ya later 🙂
