Flatliners…. Just Why

There are some remakes that are destined to be remade, and then there are some that bestow that old age saying and I quote “don’t fix what isn’t broken” Flatliners falls in to is category, sure the original which was released way back in the early 90s was okay at best but this is still one film that should never ever be remade like ever.

Flatliners follows the story of college grad students who undertake an experiment, which is basically to die experience the afterlife and then be bought back to life only for them to start hallucinating and seeing things. Now sounds interesting, the nineties version is fantastic regarding the story, pacing and visuals, this 2017 remake looks cheesy, tacky and just really really bad visually, trust me read my Dark Tower review and you will see that I hated that movie, this movie, oh boy hate isn’t even the word to describe this movie, it was garbage absolute garbage, the pacing seemed fast and the visuals were god awfully terrible the acting was…. pardon my potty mouth but SHIT!!!!!

This is only a short review because there is nothing else to say about this movie don’t waste your money and go see Blade Runner (which far superior than this pile of horseshit) Final rating 0/10 it’s awful anyway guys I’ll catch ya later 🙂

IT, Probably One Of The Best Adaptions To A Stephen King Novel Ever

As I’ve said before I love book to film adaptions, however in my Dark Tower review there are some books that need special attention when adapting them in to a film, IT does just that and is by far a definite achievement by adapting the infamous novel in to one of the most scariest films we have seen this year.

For those who are unfamiliar with the story of IT let me tell you, IT is about a clown who every twenty seven years comes to Derry in Maine to kidnap children, a group of kids nicknamed the losers club go out and destroy the clown, only for it to come back 27 years later when they are adults, and that’s IT, the film is so terrifyingly scary that I found myself watching through my fingers at some scenes, however this isn’t your average horror movie no, it has some absolutely amazing comedic moments especially from the young cast, the banter between them is amazing, the insults are just hilarious, my favourite insult has to be when a member of the losers club peeks in to Eddie’s medicine cabinet and says “hey Eddie are these birth control pills” to which Eddie replies “yeah those are for your sister” trust me there’s plenty more where that come from during the two hour run time.

The scares are impressive as is Pennywise, who is played incredibly well by Bill Skarsgard, he actually gives Tim Curry a run for his money, Pennywise in this film is probably the best thing about this movie as is the talented young cast, the film stars Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough the leader of the losers club, Finn Wolfhard as Richie Tozier the comedic one of the group, Chosen Jacobs as Mike Hanlon, Jack Dylan Grazer as hypochondriac Eddie Kasbrak and Wyatt Oleff as Stan Uris, trust me this cast is amazing to watch, you can tell they enjoyed making the film.

All in all IT is one of the most faithful adaptions of a Stephen King book I have seen in a long time, almost makes me forget we had a Dark Tower release but hey that’s just me, oh for those who suffer from coulrophobia for the love of god stay away from this film, anyway IT is an amazing, scary if not terrifying and faithful movie adaption, now I ask you a question with the amount of Stephen King novels we are seeing getting adapted what book would you like to see get the big screen adaption, for me I would love to see a Misery or even a Cujo remake, what do want to see adapted let me know I’m quite interested to hear, but until next time guys catch ya later.

Alien: Covenant Or Alien With Prometheus Tied In With It As Well

Ah Prometheus, what was a prequel to Alien that really wasn’t and left so many unanswered questions, Ridley Scott returns to direct Alien Covenant… wait what??? A new Alien movie sign me the hell up, and then watched it at the only to realise I’d just walked out of a Prometheus sequel.

Okay let’s get one thing clear, this isn’t an Alien movie no, it’s a Prometheus sequel with Alien slabbed all over the title, and my god is this film gory, I can take gore as much as any other guy, but Alien Covenant ramps up the gore factor to a whopping ten out of ten, any way the film follows a similar plot to Prometheus meaning a new crew made up of one of the most sorry excuses of a space crew you have ever seen, they make some of the most ridiculous, god awfully bad decisions, for instance when gas is leaking in a confined space what do you do…. you search for the gas leak and switch off the gas…. ah but this crew member thinks it’s wise to shoot a bloody gun while gas is leaking, while I was repeatedly yelling at the screen yelling “you silly woman don’t shoot the gun” suddenly she shoots the gun and KABOOMMMM!!!! the spaceship blows up “insert slow clapping GIF here”

Boy this film was bad, I hated this movie for one or two reasons, one the plot went absolutely nowhere once they landed on the god forsaken planet, two the crew were possibly the most dumbest crew members I have ever had the displeasure of watching on a cinema screen, Ridley Scott hang your head in shame for this is the worst instalment of the Alien…. sorry Prometheus saga ever since Resurrection, seriously give resurrection a miss it’s really bad… final score 0/0 until next time guys catch ya later 🙂

Beyond The Black Rainbow… Trippy Nothing Else Just Trippy

Wow, wow, wow, wow… this film is just wow! Visually amazing the soundtrack is a proper 80s throwback the plot is a little hard to follow at some points, but don’t worry about the plot with this one, this is a film where you can sit back relax and let the visuals take you on a weird acid like trip without the acid.

Clocking in at around two hours the plot starts with a classic 80s throwback and cinematography that’s straight out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, I can’t tell you much about the plot because it’s quite a tricky one to tell, but really you shouldn’t watch it for the plot it’s more of a visual experience, and boy this film has some amazing visuals right from the off, from the bright white room where a young girl is staying, to a glowing white pyramid in the middle of a dark and dimly lit room, now I’m not gonna lie the film is slow, like really really slow, this is the sort of film that you have to watch when you have absolutely nothing to do, oh and probably watch it in a quiet room where there’s no distractions, while I’m at it don’t watch it if anyone you know is epileptic… trust me not a good idea. The acting is impressive (trust me you will hate the therapist/psychiatrist guy)

All in all Beyond The Black Rainbow is a visually impressive slow burner of a film and a right proper throwback to the sci-fi movies of the seventies and eighties final rating 10/10 for the amazing visual hypnotic journey you take.

Oh by the way this film was requested by a user who goes by the name warriornonoba shout out to him/her for recommending this fantastic film one of my new favourites at the moment, so as always guys catch ya later 🙂

The Dark Tower Works As A Standalone Film Rather Than An Adaptation

I am a huge Stephen King fan, I’ve read and loved every book he wrote, from The Shining to Carrie and my personal favourite It which hits cinemas next month, this year we’ve seen a lot of Stephen King adaptions quite recently The Dark Tower, however I say adaption but the dark tower is nothing like the books, the director really wanted to squeeze in as much as he could with the dark tower, all in all it’s a jumbled up mess.

The dark tower weaves together all the dark tower series in to one film rather than stick to just one source material, I didn’t particularly enjoy this movie and I’m going to be really honest about it, it sucked…. It sucked big time, like really sucked probably the worst film I have ever had the displeasure of seeing at the cinema, the story was dull and unfaithful to the books the acting was sub par and the CGI looked like something out of a cheesy 80s action flick.

Even one guy I was sitting next to mumbled “that didn’t happen” “oh that certainly didn’t happen” “well this is just god awful” no wait that was me, anyway the film was a massive pile of crap, do yourself a favour and go see something else, don’t waste your money on this, it really is just a god awful film try and find another Stephen King adaption to watch I guarantee it’ll be a thousand times better than this mess of a film.

Final score 0/10 possibly the lowest I’ve ever given a film on here, anyway guys until next time catch you later.

The Martian Review

Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi film stars Matt Damon as an astronaught who is thought to be dead on Mars, but he is in fact still alive and trying to grow crops and attempting to survive.
So Ridley Scott’s new film has opened to critical and box office success, except for one reviewer (me) who really didn’t like this film, now before all the hate comes let me give my reasons why I didn’t like this film, one thing is its run time it’s 141 minutes long so it’s pretty long indeed. The other reason why I didn’t like this film was because it was dull, I felt like a payed for a one way ticket to dullsville when watching this, firstly they are trying to get Matt Damon back to Earth which takes the entire length of the film now don’t get me wrong it was interesting, but for the length of the film it really did drag.
However the only good thing about this film was the soundtrack, (there’s a really funny end credits song but I won’t spoil that for you) the soundtrack mainly has 70s era music, one of the crew really enjoys listening to it the the soundtrack contains a song one on of my favourite singers David Bowie, any way the soundtrack was probably the best part of the film, but it doesn’t help the films dullness.

The effects are also the best part of the film, when the storm hits is probably the best part so I guess the movie does have at least one good thing about it right? Anyway my thoughts on this movie, well it was long and dull and personally I didn’t like it I would give it a solid 2/10 the effects were great but the length was really really long.

So all in all its a pretty dull film but hey that’s just my opinion, what did you think of The Martian did you think it was dull? Or did you enjoy it let me know but until next time catch ya later.

Jurassic World Review Spoilers Ahead

This film was the biggest pile of……. Epic awesomeness I have ever witnessed at the cinema and probably the best film I have seen this year, the film follows the park on the island where the first one was filmed on Isla Nublar, so let’s dive in to a world of awesomeness this is Jurassic World.

So we open up with an egg and in that egg we have the indominus rex or I-Rex for short, another egg is hatching which is the I-Rex’s sibling, we then cut to a suburban part of America where we meet two of our main characters Zach and Gray they are going to Jurassic World to visit their aunt Claire who is the operations manager at the park, they fly over there and travel by ferry to the park, there they meet with an assistant Claire has sent to look after them, they check in to the hotel room and are given wristbands as they are VIPs at the park, they travel to the visitors center where they run in to Claire who tells them that she is busy but will hang tomorrow, she goes and meets with Jurassic World’s eccentric owner Mr Masrani who has flown in to see a new dinosaur that the parks geneticists team have created. Once they are in the paddock we see a glimpse of the I-Rex and Masrani tells Claire to get a guy named Owen Grady, I guess you can say he is a raptor whisperer, so she travels to see Owen.

We meet Owen training raptors and then we meet the villain Vic Hoskins, head of the parks ACU (Asset Containment Unit) as they are talking Vic says he wants to use the raptors as a weapon, Owen disagrees, suddenly a pig gets loose and a paddock worker falls in to the paddock, and when the raptors go to attack him Owen steps in and calms the raptors down. We are then taken to Owens bungalow where Claire meets up with Owen, we learn they have had a thing in the past and have been dating but it didn’t really work out, any who, Owen agrees to survey the paddock, once there he sees claw marks on the wall where the I-Rex has tried to jump out going down to investigate and finding no sign of the dinosaur in the paddock Owen plus two other guys investigate further, ah but then the parks control team find that the dinosaur is in fact in the paddock with them, as the team try to warn them the I-Rex shows up and kills two workers and escapes the paddock.

The next few minutes not a lot happens we see Zach and Gray on the gyro sphere, they come across a restricted area, just as they go to investigate phase one of an evacuation begins closing down the ride, they travel in to the restricted area only to come across the I-Rex who destroys the gyrosphere, they escape and come across, wait for it wait for it ready for a nostalgia trip back to 1993, they travel to the very first visitor centre from the first film, they find the “when dinosaurs ruled the earth” banner exactly where the t-rex roared at the end of the first film, they find a jeep fix it up and then drive back to the park, but trouble is brewing when Mr Masrani pimps his helicopter up with a machine gun and goes after the I-Rex himself, his helicopter is taken down by some teradactyls (pardon the spelling) letting them loose, they fly to the park, now this is where shit hits the fan, they attack the visitors picking them up then going all circ de solei on them sending them flying like trapeze artists, Zach and Gray are caught up in this chaos and meet up with the assistant, who sadly gets picked up by the winged beasts and is then dropped into the mosasaurus enclosure, the mosasaurus then kills the assistant along with the teradactyl (again pardon the spelling)

Okay to cut a long story short they use Owen’s raptors to try and defeat the I-Rex Vic dies by one of the raptors, now this scene is probably one of the most fantastic dinosaur fights in the history of Jurassic park, the I-Rex kills two raptors, Claire then gets one of the most infamous dinos out, the t-rex from the first Jurassic park film, they have an awesome fight, and just when you think the t-rex is about to die bam another raptor comes and saves the day, the t-rex gets back up and fights the I-rex, and then something unexpected happens bam! The mosasaurus leaps up and kills the I-Rex. We then cut to an airport hangar where the injured are getting treated Zach and Gray’s parents arrive, and Owen and Claire get back together, then we cut to the helipad where Masrani’s chopper was kept, the t-rex then let’s out a mighty roar as the Jurassic park theme plays.

And that was Jurassic world OMG!!!! I loved this movie I really really really enjoyed it I mean it was amazing and I mean amazing I mean my heart was pounding at a few scenes, it really is a throwback to the first one because the soundtrack is the same Micheal Giacinno has done an amazing job, I wouldn’t say he gives John Williams a run for his money but that soundtrack though oh my god, nostalgia wise oh god this film was a complete throwback to the first film, now let’s get one thing straightend out forget there ever was a second or third one forget that, Jurassic world feels like it’s the sequel to Jurassic park and in a way it is.

Now let’s talk about the cast, well first of we have Chris Pratt who played Owen, now he was great in this, I mean he had so many great lines and his character seemed to be the only character who thought that the I-Rex was a bad idea, then there’s Bryce Dallas Howard who plays the operational manager Claire, now there is an infamous scene in this where she is running away from the T Rex in heels, ladies is that even fucking possible to do all that running in heels I’m a dude right and even I know you can’t do that so how is that even possible, any way she was okay I guess a lot of people say she was wooden but I couldn’t see any of that, then there’s Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins who play Zach and Gray now these characters where in my opinion great they had a few funny lines but nonetheless they were great, the whole cast done a fantastic job as did the director Colin Trevorrow who I haven’t even heard of but now he is one of my top directors, he really does know when to add the nostalgic feels to the film and with only one other film to his name (sleeper hit film Safety Not Guarenteed) he has really stepped up from small budget to big blockbuster films and I can not wait to see his other work in the future.

And that was my review on Jurassic World I hope you enjoyed taking a nostalgic trip with me, now go and see this film and be blown back to the 90s again with this film, until next time catch ya later.

My top 10 anticipated films of 2015

Taking a break from reviewing I thought I’d share my 10 films that I’m looking forward too this year, so let’s dive in with number 10.

10) Cobain: Montage of Heck

Okay I know I said films, technically this is a film (documentary film) the reason why I am looking forward to it is because I am a big Nirvana fan, when I saw that this was coming out I had to add it to my watch list, the film will tell the story of Kurt Cobain lead singer of Nirvana, from childhood to death.

9) Unfriended

A small independent horror all filmed from a girls webcam, now I have to say I love the premise of this film, it’s all filmed through a group chat on Skype, what I love about this is that it’s targeted at teens who use social media, it also has a dark element to it (the film is about cyber-bullying after all)

8) San Andreas

Disaster films you either love them or you hate them (their like marmite) so San Andreas follows Dwayne Johnson  who’s estranged daughter is in LA when a powerful and destructive earthquake tears through the San Andreas fault, what I love is that how the trailer made the film look epic (it kinda has a 2012 vibe to it) well anyway he’s a helicopter pilot and he goes and saves his daughter, now I know what your thinking “oh that’s so cliched ugh do something different Hollywood” and your right it is very cliched but why not give the trailer a go.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yftHosO0eUo

7) Tomorrowland

Yet again another Disney film, only this time we have absolutely no idea what this one is about, it’s been kept under wraps and we know little about the plot, all we know is that George Clooney is in it, that’s all we know, which is why I am excited for it as little is known, so we are in for a suprise and I love surprises.

6) Insidious: chapter 3

This has to be my favourite horror trilogy I mean it has jumpscares and ghosts, sadly the lambert family are not in this one but we get a new family, I guess you can say this is a prequel as to how the psychic lady bagan, still it looks good and judging by the trailer it looks scary see for yourselves if you want.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HxEXnVSr1w

5) Terminator Genysis

I’m a little bit worried with this one because this is a reboot (terminator salvation was a reboot) so I’m a little but worried, howeve the original terminator is back (Arnold Schwarzenegger) now the trailer looks good but then again so did the salvation trailer, I don’t know it could be good only time can tell hey.

4) Paper Towns

John Green has to be my favourite author at the moment, The Fault In Our Stars is one of my all time favourites by him, so when I heard they were releasing another film based on one of his books, I got so hyped I mean I jumped up and down and screamed out loud, The Fault in Our Stars really made me cry my eyes out I mean it’s so emotional and it takes a lot to make me cry, so I hope Paper Towns is just as good.

3) Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max has to be my favourite 80s trilogy, I mean it’s OTT to the max all in all its a good watch, if you haven’t seen the films I highly recommend them as they are fantastic, so when I found out that George Miller was directing another Mad Max film I was so happy, the trailer for this is a right nostalgic trip for those who remembers the 80s films, Fury Road will star Tom Hardy as Max as well as a whole bunch of actors and actresses including Charleze Theron and Nicholas Hoult (trust me when you see his character he is unrecognisable).

Here’s the trailer https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HxEXnVSr1w

2) Ant-Man

I was gutted when Edgar Wright dropped out as the director for this I mean I was gutted, he is one of my favourite directors and seeing him tackle a Marvel film would of been amazing, well anyway I’m sure loads of you know the story of Ant-Man, and if you don’t well then I’ll tell you, Hank Pym is a scientist who makes a suit that shrinks him down to the size of an ant (hence the name Ant-Man) now the trailer looked amazing, hopefully it will be a guardians of the galaxy kind of movie and be the number one summer box office hit, hey who knows.

And finally number 1

Jurassic World!!!

I literally can not wait for this movie, I really can’t every time I hear that piano theme I get chills, the film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (he directed a massively successful film safety not guaranteed) the film will also star, now get ready as there is a lot of stars coming your way, right you ready, the film will star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Irrfan Khan, Judy Greer, Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins as the younger leads Phew that’s a lot of actors and actresses.

This is number one because I love jurassic park I mean I kinda grew up with it you know, the first one was the one that got me in to dinosaurs as a kid (I had a whole collection of them and could memorise the names) I mean it stuck with me and once I found out they were shooting jurassic world, I’m not gonna lie but a tear come to my eye and I was so happy I mean we are getting another jurassic park movie, it’s here guys, no more delevopment hell, no more Rambo raptors, no more director rumours and script rumours, it’s here and coming in June which is like two months away guys I am so excited for this and you should be too because you grew up with this your 90s child is going to feel nostalgic again, here is the trailer for the film. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RFinNxS5KN4

And that is my most anticipated films of this year, I hope you have enjoyed it, let me know what films you are excited for, until next time catch you later

Dredd Review

If you like an over the top action movie then Dredd is the film for you, i mean the way its filmed its amazing it really is, its one of those underrated films that if you say to someone “oh hey I watched Dredd last night” they probably won’t have a clue on what you are on about, or they’ll mention the 90s version with Sylvester Stallone which come on did you really enjoy that film? so Dredd came out way back in 2012 and stars Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Dredd and Anderson, the film is based of the 2000 AD comics Judge Dredd in case your interested.

The story follows Dredd in the town called Mega City One, in there he is a judge a jury and an executioner all in one (basically he can sentence you for how ever many years without a jury or a court because he is the law) he is charged with the duty of taking a rookie called Anderson to a tower block called Peach Trees to go and investigate a triple homicide and to do a drugs bust, but little do they know that a clan called the mama clan know that the judges are in the building, Dredd and Anderson catch some guys doing a drug deal they burst in and kill the drug dealers while taking one hostage. While interrogating the hostage Anderson uses her psychic powers on him, thus learning that he was the one who killed the guys who fell from the balcony, so Dredd decides to go after mama himself , mama seals the building down using her hacker (played by an unrecognizable Domnhall Gleeson) once they are locked in mama tells all the residents to stay indoors.

Mama decides to take matters in to her own hands by getting her posse and some mini-guns and completely destroys one of the floors with the mini-guns killing innocent people in the process, now this scene was bloody awesome I mean I didn’t see what old mama was gonna bring but once she got three mini-guns out oh boy I know shit was gonna go down, suddenly Anderson gets kidnapped by Dredd’s hostage and he takes her to mama where she keeps her prisoner Dredd makes an announcement over peach trees intercom system saying that he will take mama down and that he is the law.

So after all this carnage Anderson is kidnapped by the hostage, Dredd makes his way to the 200th floor to confront mama and to rescue Anderson, once he is on the 200th he confronts mama and makes her take the slo-mo and bam pushes her off the balcony, now this part is just breathtaking I mean we see the graphic detail of what happens when your face hits the floor. And that is Dredd, and what a film it is, I mean the effects are stunning, and really well made, the slo-mo drug when people take them is just amazingly filmed, i love a good sci-fi movie and this one was fantastic i would give this film a solid 10/10 mainly because of the whole filming of the slo-mo drug itself, so let me know what you thought of this film until next time catch you later.
