My top 10 anticipated films of 2015

Taking a break from reviewing I thought I’d share my 10 films that I’m looking forward too this year, so let’s dive in with number 10.

10) Cobain: Montage of Heck

Okay I know I said films, technically this is a film (documentary film) the reason why I am looking forward to it is because I am a big Nirvana fan, when I saw that this was coming out I had to add it to my watch list, the film will tell the story of Kurt Cobain lead singer of Nirvana, from childhood to death.

9) Unfriended

A small independent horror all filmed from a girls webcam, now I have to say I love the premise of this film, it’s all filmed through a group chat on Skype, what I love about this is that it’s targeted at teens who use social media, it also has a dark element to it (the film is about cyber-bullying after all)

8) San Andreas

Disaster films you either love them or you hate them (their like marmite) so San Andreas follows Dwayne Johnson  who’s estranged daughter is in LA when a powerful and destructive earthquake tears through the San Andreas fault, what I love is that how the trailer made the film look epic (it kinda has a 2012 vibe to it) well anyway he’s a helicopter pilot and he goes and saves his daughter, now I know what your thinking “oh that’s so cliched ugh do something different Hollywood” and your right it is very cliched but why not give the trailer a go.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yftHosO0eUo

7) Tomorrowland

Yet again another Disney film, only this time we have absolutely no idea what this one is about, it’s been kept under wraps and we know little about the plot, all we know is that George Clooney is in it, that’s all we know, which is why I am excited for it as little is known, so we are in for a suprise and I love surprises.

6) Insidious: chapter 3

This has to be my favourite horror trilogy I mean it has jumpscares and ghosts, sadly the lambert family are not in this one but we get a new family, I guess you can say this is a prequel as to how the psychic lady bagan, still it looks good and judging by the trailer it looks scary see for yourselves if you want.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HxEXnVSr1w

5) Terminator Genysis

I’m a little bit worried with this one because this is a reboot (terminator salvation was a reboot) so I’m a little but worried, howeve the original terminator is back (Arnold Schwarzenegger) now the trailer looks good but then again so did the salvation trailer, I don’t know it could be good only time can tell hey.

4) Paper Towns

John Green has to be my favourite author at the moment, The Fault In Our Stars is one of my all time favourites by him, so when I heard they were releasing another film based on one of his books, I got so hyped I mean I jumped up and down and screamed out loud, The Fault in Our Stars really made me cry my eyes out I mean it’s so emotional and it takes a lot to make me cry, so I hope Paper Towns is just as good.

3) Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max has to be my favourite 80s trilogy, I mean it’s OTT to the max all in all its a good watch, if you haven’t seen the films I highly recommend them as they are fantastic, so when I found out that George Miller was directing another Mad Max film I was so happy, the trailer for this is a right nostalgic trip for those who remembers the 80s films, Fury Road will star Tom Hardy as Max as well as a whole bunch of actors and actresses including Charleze Theron and Nicholas Hoult (trust me when you see his character he is unrecognisable).

Here’s the trailer https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3HxEXnVSr1w

2) Ant-Man

I was gutted when Edgar Wright dropped out as the director for this I mean I was gutted, he is one of my favourite directors and seeing him tackle a Marvel film would of been amazing, well anyway I’m sure loads of you know the story of Ant-Man, and if you don’t well then I’ll tell you, Hank Pym is a scientist who makes a suit that shrinks him down to the size of an ant (hence the name Ant-Man) now the trailer looked amazing, hopefully it will be a guardians of the galaxy kind of movie and be the number one summer box office hit, hey who knows.

And finally number 1

Jurassic World!!!

I literally can not wait for this movie, I really can’t every time I hear that piano theme I get chills, the film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow (he directed a massively successful film safety not guaranteed) the film will also star, now get ready as there is a lot of stars coming your way, right you ready, the film will star Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Irrfan Khan, Judy Greer, Nick Robinson and Ty Simpkins as the younger leads Phew that’s a lot of actors and actresses.

This is number one because I love jurassic park I mean I kinda grew up with it you know, the first one was the one that got me in to dinosaurs as a kid (I had a whole collection of them and could memorise the names) I mean it stuck with me and once I found out they were shooting jurassic world, I’m not gonna lie but a tear come to my eye and I was so happy I mean we are getting another jurassic park movie, it’s here guys, no more delevopment hell, no more Rambo raptors, no more director rumours and script rumours, it’s here and coming in June which is like two months away guys I am so excited for this and you should be too because you grew up with this your 90s child is going to feel nostalgic again, here is the trailer for the film. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RFinNxS5KN4

And that is my most anticipated films of this year, I hope you have enjoyed it, let me know what films you are excited for, until next time catch you later

Dracula Untold Review

To celebrate the release of seventh son in the UK I thought I review another fantasy film called Dracula Untold, now I was never a fan of fantasy films (I still hate them to this day) my sister wanted to go see this and I thought okay why not hey it can’t be bad can’t it, oh boy was I wrong on so many levels. Dracula untold tells the untold story of Vlad the impaler, this is the guy who Bram Stoker based the infamous Dracula on, now what’s wrong with this film, well for one its short, very very short (about 80 minutes or so) I mean I was kinda disappointed when it ended because I felt like we didn’t get enough backstory on this guy, but nonetheless lets sink our teeth (if you pardon the pun) in to this monstrosity of a film.

So we open up on Vlad’s son Ingelras telling the story of how Vlad became the impaler he is known for today, cut to a few years later and Vlad and his clan are outside a cave, they are visiting an infamous vampire (played by Charles Dance) after some dialogue and some not so scary moments they leave. Back in Vlad’s kingdom they are celebrating Easter until the Turkish arrive and tell Vlad that they demand 1200 boys for their army, but Vlad declines thus sparking another feud with the Turkish, cut to a few days later and Vlad gives up his son to the Turkish (or does he) he then kills some of the Turkish soldiers waiting to take Ingelras away.

Vlad decides to go to the vampire from the start of the film, and this is where he turns in to Count Dracula. After some dialogue and not a lot of things going on (best to go for a bathroom break here) now wee see the Turkish army moving in and what does Vlad do to stop the army from invading, he turns in to thousands upon thousands of bats (to be honest this was the best part of the film) but then his wife is pushed from this really tall building and then bam she dies (spoiler alert) so what does Vlad do well he turns his whole kingdom in to vampires (because why the fuck not) so they attack the Turkish army head on and after an okay battle scene the townspeople turn on Vlad, as one preist takes Ingelras Vlad is left to fend for himself.

Cut to the present (and I shit you not this was the most cringiest part of the film) Vlad hasn’t aged all of the people in his kingdom are dead (his son included) well at a Viennese market Vlad walks up to a woman and says “how do you do my lady” now this part to me was a commercial for a fragrance, seriously I was waiting for the voice over guy to say “bite, the new fragrance by Vlad” honest to god I was waiting for that, suddenly Charles Dance’s character gets up and says “let the games begin” and it ends there hinting at a possible sequel yay!!! (Insert sarcastic tone here)

And that was Dracula untold, my God did I hate this film I mean it was so atrociously bad I wanted to get bitten by  Vlad himself, I mean the acting is poor the dialogue is awkward and just god awfully cringeworthy, whoever wrote the script must be sacked it was that bad, mind you I’m not suprised since it got a 28% rating on rotten tomatoes, and plus it was directed by a guy who shit commercials for a living…. Oh that explains the really really bad ending the director thought he was making a commercial instead of a film, oh it makes sense now. Anyway what do I give Dracula Untold, well I give it a 2/10 mostly because of the cheesy dialogue and awful acting, so let me know what you thought of Dracula untold as always I would love to hear your opinion on this film, and also are you going to see Seventh Son when it comes out, let me know, until next time catch you later.

Dredd Review

If you like an over the top action movie then Dredd is the film for you, i mean the way its filmed its amazing it really is, its one of those underrated films that if you say to someone “oh hey I watched Dredd last night” they probably won’t have a clue on what you are on about, or they’ll mention the 90s version with Sylvester Stallone which come on did you really enjoy that film? so Dredd came out way back in 2012 and stars Karl Urban and Olivia Thirlby as Judge Dredd and Anderson, the film is based of the 2000 AD comics Judge Dredd in case your interested.

The story follows Dredd in the town called Mega City One, in there he is a judge a jury and an executioner all in one (basically he can sentence you for how ever many years without a jury or a court because he is the law) he is charged with the duty of taking a rookie called Anderson to a tower block called Peach Trees to go and investigate a triple homicide and to do a drugs bust, but little do they know that a clan called the mama clan know that the judges are in the building, Dredd and Anderson catch some guys doing a drug deal they burst in and kill the drug dealers while taking one hostage. While interrogating the hostage Anderson uses her psychic powers on him, thus learning that he was the one who killed the guys who fell from the balcony, so Dredd decides to go after mama himself , mama seals the building down using her hacker (played by an unrecognizable Domnhall Gleeson) once they are locked in mama tells all the residents to stay indoors.

Mama decides to take matters in to her own hands by getting her posse and some mini-guns and completely destroys one of the floors with the mini-guns killing innocent people in the process, now this scene was bloody awesome I mean I didn’t see what old mama was gonna bring but once she got three mini-guns out oh boy I know shit was gonna go down, suddenly Anderson gets kidnapped by Dredd’s hostage and he takes her to mama where she keeps her prisoner Dredd makes an announcement over peach trees intercom system saying that he will take mama down and that he is the law.

So after all this carnage Anderson is kidnapped by the hostage, Dredd makes his way to the 200th floor to confront mama and to rescue Anderson, once he is on the 200th he confronts mama and makes her take the slo-mo and bam pushes her off the balcony, now this part is just breathtaking I mean we see the graphic detail of what happens when your face hits the floor. And that is Dredd, and what a film it is, I mean the effects are stunning, and really well made, the slo-mo drug when people take them is just amazingly filmed, i love a good sci-fi movie and this one was fantastic i would give this film a solid 10/10 mainly because of the whole filming of the slo-mo drug itself, so let me know what you thought of this film until next time catch you later.

VHS 2 Review

Oh boy, okay now this film was just gross and i mean disgustingly gross, i love gore but there’s a limit to it and this film went overboard with the gore. So what is this film about, well its an anthology film (different films made by different directors) this kinda reminded me of the Twilight Zone movie from the 80s (don’t quote me on that) I loved the Twilight Zone movie, it was different, so VHS 2 is a sequel to VHS which is even more disgusting than this one, we see different horror segments made by up and coming directors (one of whom directed the smash hit film The Raid) now some of the films were jumpy but the first half is really really gory (best to have a strong stomach for this one) and if your squeamish then avoid this film. The film follows two private investigators finding a missing student, when they are in the dorm they find stacks and stacks of VHS tapes, so they so they decide to watch them in the order that the student (who has left a video recording) has set, and thus a hours worth of gore, zombies, ghosts and aliens commences.

Test Phase

The first film follows a man who gets an eye implant with a built in video camera, and we see him go through some really scary ghost activity, there’s a scene in which you see a body under the covers that got my heart racing like crazy, so he gets help form a lady who has the same problem only instead of seeing the ghosts she can hear them, as she ties to distract the guy (which fails) she ends up getting drowned by the ghosts, so the guy decides to cut out his eye with a razor, after that with the eye still attached to the razor the ghosts shove it down the guys throat killing him.

A Ride In The Park

The second film is all about a guy who goes biking with a go-pro camera attached to his head, we see him biking and jumping over stuff, until he comes across a bloody woman asking for help, the guy offers but she violently bites him and he turns in to a zombie, after this two people come across him and get bitten as well, they turn in to zombies and they go and invade a children’s birthday party biting the guests, as the madness is happening the guy gets a call form his girlfriend asking where he is, after this he finds a shot gun and shoots himself.

Safe Haven

The third film follows a TV crew filming a cult in Asia, the cult leader is interviewed and they go in to the cult, we see the followers of this cult and what they do, but as the film goes on we see the dark meaning of what this cult are plotting, one of the news crew is pregnant to they kidnap her and she gives birth to a bull and the demon chases the last remaining crew member in to a car he then dies by the demon creature.

Slumber Party Alien Abduction

the fourth and final film follows a group of children at a slumber party all filmed through a camera on their Yorkshire Terrier dog as they get up to mischief they are unaware that aliens have landed and are heading for them, as the night goes on they are still unaware of the impending doom that the aliens are bringing, so as the night progresses the aliens come down and abduct the children sucking them up to their spaceship one of them carrying the dog accidentally drops it killing the dog as the kid gets sucked in to the spaceship.

and that is VHS 2, a really short film and I mean really short, the films are only 15 minutes give or take, but out of the four only two were gory those were safe haven and a ride in the park, now i really enjoyed this you don’t need character development in these films because they are only short but as for the gore i hated it, i mean if you want to see a man blow up and a bull emerge form a woman then i would say go for it, but however if your squeamish (like me) then definitely give this film a miss, but if you love gore then i would recommend it.

I also love the way that this was filmed, i love found footage movies as i said in the my little eye review, the different ways it was filmed, my favorite one has to be the camera embedded in the eye, now that’s genius  also the camera attached to the terrier was an inventive way as well, now i liked this film so I would give this film a 8/10 mainly because it was too gory for my liking but apart from that   it was really enjoyable. Have you seen this film? are you a fan of horror/found footage? what’s your favorite horror film? until next time catch you later.

My Little Eye review (Major spoilers ahead you have been warned)

This is such an underrated film I mean not many people know about this film and I hadn’t until I stumbled across it on google, so I sat down and watched it.

Now I am a huge fan of found footage movies, I mean paranormal activity still scares the shit of me, I mean the whole found footage genre I love, now I have never heard of this film at all as I said in the intro it’s very underrated, so what’s this story about, well it’s about big brother 6 people agree to stay in a mansion for six months and at the end one of them receives a massive pay load of 1 million dollars but if one of them leaves then everyone loses, sounds simple ah but the six months are coming to an end and they start getting really weird packages with one of them containing some bricks and another with a loaded gun with 5 bullets in it.

So what happens you say, well all this commotion and one of the housemates starts wondering if it’s a stalker from her childhood (she starts seeing objects and messages on the window that remind her) well as all this is going on a strange man called Travis turns up completely out of the blue, and guess who Travis is played by (a very young Bradley Cooper) yep didn’t see that coming either, so Travis turns up and says that he does not recognise the housemates (they are all on a website on the Internet supposedly) which starts worrying the housemates.

Well as the film goes on Travis starts talking to the cameras around the house and steals some underware from one of the girls rooms, the next morning Travis leaves and the woman whose underware has been stolen finds it in one of the guys rooms, she accuses him of stealing, which he declines she starts disbelieving him, as an apology he carves her a cat but she mocks it and he overhears everything, the next morning the guy has hung himself and has died (I did warn you there would be spoilers) as the film goes on everyone is paranoid until one night one of the guys finds out that they are not on the Internet, but instead on a blocked website that people would play up to fifty thousand dollars to view, as he tries to hack in to it cameras turn on in the room (it’s a room where cameras are not allowed) so the housemates start panicking, that night two of them talk about what they would do when they get out, suddenly this guy gives the woman a massage halfway through he says that he chose to come on here for the fear after that he looks into the camera and says “shall I kill her now” after that he strangles her with a plastic bag.

So turns out this guy is working for the company that is running the website so he kills the hacker and tries to kill the woman who had her underware stolen, as he tries to kill her a cop arrives and then bam he shoots the woman, later in a bar the cop and the guy working for the company are having a drink, and their keeping the girl the cop shot in a locked freezer, as the guy working for the company goes to take a look and the cop shoots him, and that’s it, it just ends there.

Now I loved this film it was really tense but that ending was so horrendously God awfully bad, I mean it left so many plot holes in it and that ruined the whole film for me, I mean we don’t learn who this company is we hardly know this company we don’t know what they do I mean it was god awful, but the parts where they film in the house were fantastic, I mean they were filmed great and you felt the tension everytime the camera panned round, it was definatly a tense film, just the ending could of been a little bit better, but apart from that I thought it was a good film I would give it a 6/10 main,y because of the ending but the other parts were great, let me know if you have seen this movie did you think it was disappointing or did you enjoy it let me know I would love to hear your opinion on this, and until next time catch you later.

Godzilla (2014) review

Godzilla, what an epic movie, ignore the 90s version (we all know that was god awfully bad) now I wanted to go cinema to see this, but sadly it wasn’t up there so I had to wait for the DVD to come out, so I picked it up and sat down with the family (well not my mum it’s not her type of film) anyway we sat down and watched it.

So what’s the story about, well as you can see it’s about Godzilla but it’s also about the people that tries to stop him people like the army and scientists. Now I loved this film I thought it was really good, cgi was impressive as was the acting, but did it have its flaws no, and I will tell you why minus the long running time (118 minutes) it definatly has pace and quick one too, I mean it’s very pacey and there’s action in almost every scene, but that doesn’t mean there’s no talking, now let’s talk about the cast, now there’s not an all star cast but is does have its fair share of actors so whose in it you say, well I shall tell you’ve got Bryan Cranston who plays Joe Brody Aaron-Taylor Johnson who plays Ford Brody and Elizabeth Olsen who plays Ellie Brody, there’s a lot more actors and actresses in here but too name them all will take forever.

Now let’s take a look at the action/CGI, now the CGi was fantastic I mean Godzilla looked and sounded great as did Muto (a winged creature who is Godzilla’s nemesis) the action was superb and I mean brilliant I was on the edge of my sofa watching this, (the final battle with Godzilla and Muto was epic)  the character delevopment was great, we really learn a lot from these characters and their past.

And that was Godzilla, and what a film it was I mean I really enjoyed this film I was on the edge of my seat for the whole thing, the action was amazing as was the storyline. So let me know what you thought of Godzilla did you like it, or didn’t you? did you like the 90s version or not? Until next time catch you later.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Review

Umm. Hmm. Okay i have probably witnessed the weirdest film in the history of all weird, this film has a huge massively huge cult following i mean people would and still do go to the cinema to see this film dressed up as the characters from the film, now first time i saw this i was in college at lunch and a friend of mine got it up on his iPad, what followed was the weirdest moment in my life ever and I’m not exaggerating watch the film the. Get back to me.

So the rocky horror picture show… Oh boy, where to begin, see i can’t even start off with what it’s about its that weird, so a couple who have just got engaged drive to tell the husband’s fellow scientist, as they drive they break down and have to go find somewhere, they find a very cliched haunted house in the rain with lightning striking, well as they arrive at the house a very cliched creepy butler called Riff raff (don’t question the name) opens the door now this is where it gets weird and I mean really really really really weird, brace yourselfs people we are venturing down the rabbit hole into sheer craziness.

So Riff Raff (again don’t question the name) tells the couple that the master is having a party and that he is going to show off his creation he has created, so as he is telling this he breaks out in to the infamous time warp song, oh boy okay even the singing/dancing is weird but my foot was tapping along with the music (I had to do the time warp dance at my year 6 leavers assembly… In front of the whole school…. And my teachers…. And my parents) so where was we, oh yeah the time warp umm, I can’t even review this film it’s just so weird but I will try too anyway, so after the time warp we see (brace yourselfs) we see Tim Curry as Dr Frank N Furter (don’t question the name) so dr Frank n Furter is a transvestite (I don’t even know, it’s best not to question it) and then he sings sweet transvestite, after that we see his lab and his creation, suddenly out of the fucking blue meatloaf appears…. Yep you heard me, meatloaf, just appears and sings this rock number and he is killed by Dr Frank n Furter.

So we see Frank n Furter’s (we’ll just call him Dave as my iPad does not recognise the name Frank n Furter) umm so we see dave’s creation, wait for it you’ll like this, a human man called Rocky (again don’t question it) he is like a baby just been born so he doesn’t understand what’s going on, well anyway as the couple go to bed Tim curry visits the woman and proceeds to have sex with her pretending to be her husband (I’m going to tell you again don’t question it) after he has sex with her he visits her husband… Because why not, well Tim curry has sex with the husband, then things get even weirder when a fellow scientist turns up. Around the dinner table we see the body of meatloaf as one of dave’s groupies runs out of the room.

Cut to a few hours later and Tim curry is getting ready for the floor show (don’t know what that is but as I said don’t question it) so in his lab he medusafies (I don’t know just go with it) the couple along with the scientist and thus the floor show begins. So, well, now this is where things get even weirder and I mean friggin weird Tim curry does a big song and dance suddenly riff raff comes along and shoots Dave and then kills rocky and then it ends with the couple and the scientist all in full drag regalia singing about superheroes (just go with it) and the the film ends there and I mean ends like that.

Well what can I say about this movie hmm, well I enjoyed it I mean it’s got catchy songs in it (time warp is just infectiously catchy) but it’s just so weird and I mean weird, I mean I couldn’t even tell you what the plot is, it’s that weird, but nonetheless I enjoyed it even if it was campy and really weird, I would give this film a 7/10 mainly because of its weirdness but the songs are very catchy indeed if you can get passed the weirdness then it’s a good watch, I would recommend this film definatly, I mean I enjoyed it but just don’t question it as much as I did when I watched it. So let me know what you thought of this film did you find it weird the first time you watched it let me know, until next time catch you later.

If it’s in a word or its in a book you can’t get rid of the babadook

bababa dook dook dook that’s the knock you will hear when the babadook comes to pay you a visit. Now I love a good horror (you could call me a connoisseur of horror movies) so when I first heard of this film it didn’t sound appealing, I mean with a name like the babadook as the villain it doesn’t sound threatening at all, but nonetheless I picked this film up for a tenner in HMV (a shop where they sell DVDs and other things) then today I sat down and watched this.

Now foreign horrors I enjoy (the ring and the grudge scared the fuck outta me) so this films hails from Australia, now the film follows a single mother (whose husband has died) and her son Samuel who has severe behaviour problems, because he believes in monsters, we see the mother suffering with insomnia because her son can’t sleep because of the monsters in his room. One night the son finds a book called Mr Babadook, so she reads the babadook and we see how scary and sinister this babadook is.

The son starts believing the book is real and has made weapons to defeat Mr babadook, which the mother disapproves and tells him off, cut to a few scenes later and we see them at a birthday party where Samuel’s cousin finds him in a treehouse and tells him to get out saying that he never deserved to have a dad, so Samuel pushes her out of the treehouse then claiming that it was the babadook that pushed her not him, this makes the sister hate him and the mum. The mum then goes to the doctor and says that she needs Samuel to get to sleep, so the doctor prescribes sleeping pills for Samuel, so after days of these sleeping pills everything is dandy, Samuel is sleeping so is the mum, but that doesn’t stop old Mr babadook oh no, he comes and possesses the mum, after that we see the mum get even more loopy than she ever was (she tries to strangle their dog) and many other things.

So a the film progresses we see the mum go through some very rough patches (hallucinations and angry outburst) then one night she really loses it and goes to attack Samuel, oh not before strangling the dog then breaking its neck, then she goes after Samuel and tries to kill him, Samuel petrified ties his mother up in the basement saying that he loves her and doesn’t want her to go (I was in tears at this bit) the mum then starts having a seizure and then rises up then vomits blood ending the babadooks possession.

So a few weeks have passed and Samuel is having a birthday party (he has never had a birthday on the day because his father died on the way to the birth) the mum tells us that she needed some time to get back to normal after her husbands death, then after Samuel shows his mum a magic trick they cuddle, do some gardening, and Samuel collecting a bowlful of worms, back in the house the mum goes in to the basement, Samuel asks her “will I ever see it again” to which the mum replies “of course when your older” she then goes into the basement and puts the bowl of worms down, suddenly the babadook appears and yells in the mums face, the mum then tells it that its okay, they are keeping the babadook in the basement pretty much.

And then the film ends there and what a film this was, I mean it didn’t just focus on the babadook it focused on the psychological effects that this monster can do as well as the misbehaving son affecting the mum as well, the whole film was scary my heart was pounding at some scenes in the film, I really felt unsettled during this and that’s what makes a good horror for me you need to be unsettled and feels the characters emotion, and that’s exactly what the babadook done it focused on the characters emotion rather than the actual monster, we don’t get to see the babadook but we can sense his presence when he arrives, and we feel the fear that these characters fear. Take the shining that film was psychologiacal as we felt what the characters felt especially the wife (the scene in the bathroom those screams you hear were real not acted real) I would give the babadook a solid 10/10 mainly for the acting and the unsettling side to this film, I definitely will not be sleeping soundly tonight, let me know what horror film scared you growing up or if you have seen this film then share your opinion I would love to hear it but until next time catch you later.

The Oscars

Now I know what your thinking “But the Oscars happened last week why are you dong this now” and I know it did but i decided to watch them because I wanted to know who won certain awards (best picture included) and I have to say for this years Oscars I have never felt so awkward watching them.

Let’s get started with one of the problems, the host Neil Patrick Harris, now at first I thought he was going to be great but let’s just say he can not crack a joke, with every time he told a joke the audience never laughed or cracked a smile (all you needed was tumbleweed) seriously his jokes were God awfully bad, definatly not as good as barney from how I met your mother. Another problem was how predictable the awards were gonna be (I know your gonna disagree with me on this one but hear me out) they were predictable because when you saw who was up it was obvious who was going to win the best picture award I did not see coming at all this year, although there was some surprising winners this year, but I have my own theory, when ever someone wins a BAFTA they are in the seat to win an Oscar, boyhood won for best supporting actress and she won an Oscar as well, now I know it’s a rubbish theory but that’s my opinion.

But enough complaining let’s take a look at who the winners were. For best picture Birdman (didn’t see that one coming at all) now this was up against films like Selma, American Sniper even boyhood lost to Birdman. Another shock was in the best animated film category (I’m still glad big hero 6 won) but that doesn’t mean you snub the Lego movie I mean come on that film was the definition of awesome still at least it was up for best original song for everything is awesome (if you’ve not heard that song then you’ve been living under a rock) but hey at least it won a BAFTA, at least How To Train Your Dragon 2 was up (that film was awesome by the way) there were plenty more shocks but lets just say that opening number was the best (Jack Blacks part was awesome)

Here is a list of all the other nominees and winners http://oscar.go.com/nominees if your interested in having a look.

And that was my opinion on the Oscars this year I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you thought of them, did you get your predictions right or wrong, did your favourite film win or lose, let me know I would love to hear from you until next time catch you later.

Top Five Films I have Seen

So instead of a review I thought to do a list of my top films I have seen, what are your top films let me know in the comments. So let’s get started with number five.

5) Boyhood

Now I loved this movie, if you don’t know what this is you have been living under a rock as this has been the most talked about film, it follows a boy called mason who we see age for 12 years. The reason I liked this film is because of how it was filmed (I mean for 12 years that’s something) also the soundtrack is pretty damn awesome, from Coldplay to Arcade Fire. The reason it’s at number five is the fact that it dragged out near the end but nonetheless it was a very good nostalgic trip with this one.

4) GoodFellas

Now I love a good gangster flick and goodfellas is one of my personal favourites, the story follows true life gangster Henry Hill as he rises the the ranks of being a gangster, with an all star cast including Ray Liotta and Robert De Niro, this is a really good film, plus it’s a Martin Scorsese flick (one of my favourite directors) if you love a good gangster flick definitely check this one out.

3) Mad Max

Now normally it takes a lot to get me interested in an 80s action flick, one time on a day off from college I stumbled upon this film, so I decided to download it (and cue one of the best action films of the 80s) so we follow a guy called you guessed correctly Max, he is a highway cop and family man (aww) well after his family is murdered (in a really really gruesome way) by ruthless bikers he goes on a revenge fuelled mission to take down the bikers who slayed his family. I really enjoyed this film, but it does take a long time for the family die (they die like ten minutes near the end of the film) but I really enjoyed it.

2) Gone Girl

Gone Girl… Oh boy what a film (David Fincher is a master at crime dramas) what can I say about this, tense yes, twist filled oh boy yes, so the film follows Nick Dunne whose wife goes missing and he tries to find her, but his behaviour sparks trouble with the police who think he might have something to do with it. The wife (played fantastically by Rosamund Pike) is a nutter and I mean an absolute nutter, I won’t say anymore because your gonna have to see for yourself, but nonetheless it is a very good crime drama.

And finally.

Number 1! Shutter Island

You know I said that Scorsese is one of my favourite directors, well this film is probably one of my favourites by him (this plus Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall Street) so we follow a detective who goes to a mental hospital to find a missing person (that’s all I’m gonna say as the film takes a very very good twist) this film is number one because my heart was racing and pounding throughout the whole film, storyline wise it’s very good, acting very very good (Ben Kingsley as the head of the institute is fantastic)

And those are my top five favourite movies, let me know what you think comment your opinion and let me know what your top five films are, until next time catch you later.
