The Martian Review

Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi film stars Matt Damon as an astronaught who is thought to be dead on Mars, but he is in fact still alive and trying to grow crops and attempting to survive.
So Ridley Scott’s new film has opened to critical and box office success, except for one reviewer (me) who really didn’t like this film, now before all the hate comes let me give my reasons why I didn’t like this film, one thing is its run time it’s 141 minutes long so it’s pretty long indeed. The other reason why I didn’t like this film was because it was dull, I felt like a payed for a one way ticket to dullsville when watching this, firstly they are trying to get Matt Damon back to Earth which takes the entire length of the film now don’t get me wrong it was interesting, but for the length of the film it really did drag.
However the only good thing about this film was the soundtrack, (there’s a really funny end credits song but I won’t spoil that for you) the soundtrack mainly has 70s era music, one of the crew really enjoys listening to it the the soundtrack contains a song one on of my favourite singers David Bowie, any way the soundtrack was probably the best part of the film, but it doesn’t help the films dullness.

The effects are also the best part of the film, when the storm hits is probably the best part so I guess the movie does have at least one good thing about it right? Anyway my thoughts on this movie, well it was long and dull and personally I didn’t like it I would give it a solid 2/10 the effects were great but the length was really really long.

So all in all its a pretty dull film but hey that’s just my opinion, what did you think of The Martian did you think it was dull? Or did you enjoy it let me know but until next time catch ya later.

Reservoir Dogs Review

Quentin Tarantino’s debut hit has finally found its way on to my collection of DVDs, well Blu-Rays to be exact and this is probably one of the biggest debuts I have seen a director make, the film has developed a massive cult following, and of course with a Tarantino movie you are going to get a very eclectic soundtrack, and this film has no exceptions with tunes ranging from Blue Swedes Hooked On A Feeling, to Little Green Bag, I always say to myself the soundtrack makes the film, a film with no soundtrack is like cake without custard it’s good on its own but misses the main ingredient that makes it special.

The film was realeased in the 90s and stars a big ensemble cast including Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi and Quentin Tarantino. The characters are all named after colours, for example Mr orange, Mr brown and Mr pink (“why do I have to be Mr pink” “because I fucking said so”) one of the great pieces of script right there not to mention my favourite line of all time in the film “you gonna bark all day little doggy or are you gonna bite” whoever Tarantino has hired to write his scripts he has done an amazing job, mind you everyone of his films have great lines including the infamous Ezekiel 22:17 line from Pulp Fiction (but that’s a review for another day) any way back to Reservoir Dogs.

The plot isn’t that confusing or impossible to follow, a group of thieves go and rob a jewellery store which doesn’t go according to plan, one of them is an undercover cop and the whole film is the fallout from the heist, the film also is told in flashbacks ranging from the setup of the heist to the actual heist itself. Now what did I think of this movie, well it was pretty good I am a huge fan of Tarantino, I like his eclecticness of the soundtracks, and also the scripts he produces are brilliant too, the line delivery is perfect and quick also the lines are sharp and quick fired by the actors saying them. Anyway I would give Reservoir Dogs a solid 10/10 it’s a great film and everyone should watch this, I would really recommend it.
