The Rocky Horror Picture Show Review

Umm. Hmm. Okay i have probably witnessed the weirdest film in the history of all weird, this film has a huge massively huge cult following i mean people would and still do go to the cinema to see this film dressed up as the characters from the film, now first time i saw this i was in college at lunch and a friend of mine got it up on his iPad, what followed was the weirdest moment in my life ever and I’m not exaggerating watch the film the. Get back to me.

So the rocky horror picture show… Oh boy, where to begin, see i can’t even start off with what it’s about its that weird, so a couple who have just got engaged drive to tell the husband’s fellow scientist, as they drive they break down and have to go find somewhere, they find a very cliched haunted house in the rain with lightning striking, well as they arrive at the house a very cliched creepy butler called Riff raff (don’t question the name) opens the door now this is where it gets weird and I mean really really really really weird, brace yourselfs people we are venturing down the rabbit hole into sheer craziness.

So Riff Raff (again don’t question the name) tells the couple that the master is having a party and that he is going to show off his creation he has created, so as he is telling this he breaks out in to the infamous time warp song, oh boy okay even the singing/dancing is weird but my foot was tapping along with the music (I had to do the time warp dance at my year 6 leavers assembly… In front of the whole school…. And my teachers…. And my parents) so where was we, oh yeah the time warp umm, I can’t even review this film it’s just so weird but I will try too anyway, so after the time warp we see (brace yourselfs) we see Tim Curry as Dr Frank N Furter (don’t question the name) so dr Frank n Furter is a transvestite (I don’t even know, it’s best not to question it) and then he sings sweet transvestite, after that we see his lab and his creation, suddenly out of the fucking blue meatloaf appears…. Yep you heard me, meatloaf, just appears and sings this rock number and he is killed by Dr Frank n Furter.

So we see Frank n Furter’s (we’ll just call him Dave as my iPad does not recognise the name Frank n Furter) umm so we see dave’s creation, wait for it you’ll like this, a human man called Rocky (again don’t question it) he is like a baby just been born so he doesn’t understand what’s going on, well anyway as the couple go to bed Tim curry visits the woman and proceeds to have sex with her pretending to be her husband (I’m going to tell you again don’t question it) after he has sex with her he visits her husband… Because why not, well Tim curry has sex with the husband, then things get even weirder when a fellow scientist turns up. Around the dinner table we see the body of meatloaf as one of dave’s groupies runs out of the room.

Cut to a few hours later and Tim curry is getting ready for the floor show (don’t know what that is but as I said don’t question it) so in his lab he medusafies (I don’t know just go with it) the couple along with the scientist and thus the floor show begins. So, well, now this is where things get even weirder and I mean friggin weird Tim curry does a big song and dance suddenly riff raff comes along and shoots Dave and then kills rocky and then it ends with the couple and the scientist all in full drag regalia singing about superheroes (just go with it) and the the film ends there and I mean ends like that.

Well what can I say about this movie hmm, well I enjoyed it I mean it’s got catchy songs in it (time warp is just infectiously catchy) but it’s just so weird and I mean weird, I mean I couldn’t even tell you what the plot is, it’s that weird, but nonetheless I enjoyed it even if it was campy and really weird, I would give this film a 7/10 mainly because of its weirdness but the songs are very catchy indeed if you can get passed the weirdness then it’s a good watch, I would recommend this film definatly, I mean I enjoyed it but just don’t question it as much as I did when I watched it. So let me know what you thought of this film did you find it weird the first time you watched it let me know, until next time catch you later.

If it’s in a word or its in a book you can’t get rid of the babadook

bababa dook dook dook that’s the knock you will hear when the babadook comes to pay you a visit. Now I love a good horror (you could call me a connoisseur of horror movies) so when I first heard of this film it didn’t sound appealing, I mean with a name like the babadook as the villain it doesn’t sound threatening at all, but nonetheless I picked this film up for a tenner in HMV (a shop where they sell DVDs and other things) then today I sat down and watched this.

Now foreign horrors I enjoy (the ring and the grudge scared the fuck outta me) so this films hails from Australia, now the film follows a single mother (whose husband has died) and her son Samuel who has severe behaviour problems, because he believes in monsters, we see the mother suffering with insomnia because her son can’t sleep because of the monsters in his room. One night the son finds a book called Mr Babadook, so she reads the babadook and we see how scary and sinister this babadook is.

The son starts believing the book is real and has made weapons to defeat Mr babadook, which the mother disapproves and tells him off, cut to a few scenes later and we see them at a birthday party where Samuel’s cousin finds him in a treehouse and tells him to get out saying that he never deserved to have a dad, so Samuel pushes her out of the treehouse then claiming that it was the babadook that pushed her not him, this makes the sister hate him and the mum. The mum then goes to the doctor and says that she needs Samuel to get to sleep, so the doctor prescribes sleeping pills for Samuel, so after days of these sleeping pills everything is dandy, Samuel is sleeping so is the mum, but that doesn’t stop old Mr babadook oh no, he comes and possesses the mum, after that we see the mum get even more loopy than she ever was (she tries to strangle their dog) and many other things.

So a the film progresses we see the mum go through some very rough patches (hallucinations and angry outburst) then one night she really loses it and goes to attack Samuel, oh not before strangling the dog then breaking its neck, then she goes after Samuel and tries to kill him, Samuel petrified ties his mother up in the basement saying that he loves her and doesn’t want her to go (I was in tears at this bit) the mum then starts having a seizure and then rises up then vomits blood ending the babadooks possession.

So a few weeks have passed and Samuel is having a birthday party (he has never had a birthday on the day because his father died on the way to the birth) the mum tells us that she needed some time to get back to normal after her husbands death, then after Samuel shows his mum a magic trick they cuddle, do some gardening, and Samuel collecting a bowlful of worms, back in the house the mum goes in to the basement, Samuel asks her “will I ever see it again” to which the mum replies “of course when your older” she then goes into the basement and puts the bowl of worms down, suddenly the babadook appears and yells in the mums face, the mum then tells it that its okay, they are keeping the babadook in the basement pretty much.

And then the film ends there and what a film this was, I mean it didn’t just focus on the babadook it focused on the psychological effects that this monster can do as well as the misbehaving son affecting the mum as well, the whole film was scary my heart was pounding at some scenes in the film, I really felt unsettled during this and that’s what makes a good horror for me you need to be unsettled and feels the characters emotion, and that’s exactly what the babadook done it focused on the characters emotion rather than the actual monster, we don’t get to see the babadook but we can sense his presence when he arrives, and we feel the fear that these characters fear. Take the shining that film was psychologiacal as we felt what the characters felt especially the wife (the scene in the bathroom those screams you hear were real not acted real) I would give the babadook a solid 10/10 mainly for the acting and the unsettling side to this film, I definitely will not be sleeping soundly tonight, let me know what horror film scared you growing up or if you have seen this film then share your opinion I would love to hear it but until next time catch you later.
