So the film that’s up for best picture, best director and best supporting actress has been praised by critics saying its a fantastic film, so I thought “hey I’ll have a look at the trailer and see what I think of it” and I did and the trailer only gave me a few little clips of the film not telling me much only the fact that this film was shot for twelve years (starting way back in 2002 and ending in 2013) once I saw that I thought “wow I have to see this” and I did I went to the cinema with some friends and we sat down to watch what I thought was the best non generic film to come out of Hollywood.
So the film was directed by Richard linklater who I had never heard of until I searched for him on rotten tomatoes (a movie reviewing website where critics post their opinion on the latest movies) you may have heard of the cult film dazed and confused well he directed that as well as school of rock. So the movie, well the first glimpse of the film we see the sky and blaring out the speakers in the cinema Was Yellow by Coldplay (a song which I love) so hearing that in cinema really did bring back some memories of when I was young however they did make me feel really old considering the fact that I’m going to be twenty this month, but nonetheless it was good having a nostalgia trip.
The story: so the story is simple we follow a boy growing up starting at the age of six and working up to 18 but we see what life is like through his eyes, and we see what he goes through like his mum going through several boyfriends (one of which is a raging alcoholic) we see him go through diffrerent changes in his life like moving houses every time the mum gets a new boyfriend. And that’s pretty much it its just his life and what this kid goes through.
Final opinion: I thought Boyhood was a fantastic film and it just goes to show you that Hollywood can make a decent film instead of the generic films they make so overall I give this film a 10/10 mainly because of the way it was filmed I mean 12 years for one film now that’s an achievement.
So I would say go and see it, it’s a really really good movie and trust me you will have a nostalgia trip with this one especially with the soundtrack, I can remember saying a few times “God I remember that song” or “my god I remeber having them in my school” trust me you will. So go and see this film and buy it on DVD or Blue Ray whichever one your in to.
