So I got round to watching probably one of the scariest ghost stories invented, but only this time it was the sequel! Because sequels do so well at the cinema don’t they (sarcastic tone) well anyway before we went to see this we had some friends over to watch the first one, it definitely had its jumpscares and definitely had its scary setting, a creepy old house cut off from the mainland. So after we watched the first we scheduled to go see the sequel on the Monday but the cinema had a power cut due to a storm, so we rescheduled it for the next day, now normally horror sequels really do not do well at the box office and a few people hate them (just look at the insidious sequel) but nonetheless I went and viewed this.

We arrived at the cinema at 8:50 got our snacks and sat down after a few hiccups with the lighting when the movie started they eventually turnt them off (which I wish they never did) anyway the movie begun.

So we open up in a tube station where schoolchildren and their teachers are staying after a few seconds of dialogue we get the title screen and then that’s where the movie kicks off they board a train to the country to go stay in this house (eel marsh house from the first woman in black) which seems like a great idea! Yes let’s take our children to where a vengeful ghost of a woman lives and kills children for a living because why the fuck not.

So they arrive at the house and settle in, now this is where shit hits the fan and I mean really hits the fan, as they settle in they discover the woman in black and the power she possesses, as one kid meets his demise for bullying this mute boy we meet at the start of the film called Edward now the woman in black sees Edward as a child of her own (remember nathaniel who drowned in the first movie) Edward reminds her of nathaniel and starts killing kids who are mean to him (kinda like a hit woman for bullied children) so once this kid dies the head mistress see it as an accident apart from one of the teachers who thinks there is something suspicious lurking in this house.

Now we meet another child named Joyce who sticks up for Edward after the first child bullies him, however she is the woman in blacks latest victim on her hit list, Joyce is seen playing with a friend with some red string once the friend stops playing, Joyce sees red string go up the banisters no into a room where behind some shutters an unseen figure appears, now Joyce starts strangling herself with this string but gets caught by the headmistress who catches her, so Joyce is safe from the woman in blacks wrath (or is she “evil laugh inserted here”) anyway the power goes out so the children relocate to the basement (because the basement is the safest place to go when your house is haunted) so anyway Joyce disappears and I mean vanishes just like that, the teachers find her in the bedroom with a gas mask (if you never had a fear of gas masks before you will do now after this movie) anyway so Joyce meets her demise and they decide that they cannot live there anymore (about fucking time!)

so they go to an airfield with this pilot called Harry and cue the dashing handsome gentleman whose going to save the day yay! Anyway, turns out this airfield is a decoy to the German bombers, and cue the dashing bullshitting handsome gentleman who is going to save the day yay!. So the woman in black now latched on to Edward has followed them to the airfield, so now the airfield under attack they have no choice but to evacuate again! From the airfield you’ll never guess where, yes back to the house where Edward is walking into the marshes to meet his demise, until the teacher saves him, but the woman in black drags Edward down with with her, now comes the dashing pilot Harry to save the day and uh oh he dies (cue girls crying) so with Harry dead and Edward and the teacher alive and well, we flash forward a few weeks to see Edward and the teacher living together in peace away from eel marsh house, but as they leave the house the camera pans to a photo of Harry the dashing young pilot, the picture breaks and the woman in black lets out an earpearcing scream, hinting that another sequel will soon be afoot (great “sarcastic tone”)

So that was the woman in black 2, what was my opinion you say well I thought it was absolutely scary, I mean the jumpscares are effective and do work but, as storyline and plot go I thought it was boring plus the teachers obviously do not have a certificate in child safety as two of the children in their care die, so apart form that I thought it was scary, really scary I couldn’t sleep for days. So if you want to be scared definitely go and see this, it was a very scary film just the plot was a bit of a problem.

I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I did and remember keep your visions to yourself (you’ll get that once you see the film)
